Upon further investigation, this seems to be a pretty decent concept. They've picked out 25 songs that will be covered (although some of the song choices are a bit baffling). Once a band covers a song, it's crossed off the list, therefore reducing the amount of choices for the bands that hop on board later in the project. You can learn more about the whole shebang and check out all of the previously completed covers here. Still some awesome songs to be covered. Here's the truly awesome Retribution Gospel Choir covering all-time greats The Beach Boys (why they chose "Kokomo" for this project is beyond me):

New Ruins / Retribution Gospel Choir

I wish I'd have thought about posting this before, but better late than never I guess. Friends of Fikak!, New Ruins are playing with Retribution Gospel Choir tomorrow night, Feb. 18th! All the info is on the poster but in case you can't read it from there, it is at the Canopy Club in Urbana, IL. The show is $8 and starts at 10ish. Sorry for the late notice but if you're in or around Champaign/Urbana, come and check it out. This is not you dad's rock show. And I'll be there, so bring some single ladies! Rock.

Retribution Gospel Choir

Retribution Gospel Choir is a 3-piece headed by Alan Sparhawk of Low. This is their second album entitled “2” and it will rock your face off. The music is very different from that of Low. Low seems to be very subtle and subdued whereas Retribution Gospel Choir is more about big riffs, huge drums and even a little classic rock in the mix. Their self-titled debut album was released through Mark Kozelek’s label Caldo Verde Records. This is their first album on Sub Pop and I can’t imagine it’ll be their last. My advice is to go out and buy this today and PLAY IT AS LOUD AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!
