Broken Bell's "The High Road"

The Shins' lead singer James Mercer and Dangermouse are doin' the Postal Service thing; they're calling themselves Broken Bells and they're releasing an album in March. "The High Road" is probably more reminiscent of Dangermouse's work with Beck than anything else he's done, but I definitely wouldn't lump this into the same category. You can get it for free here if you're okay with giving up your email address. Man, 2010 is gonna be a great year for music...

Track of the Week: Dark Night of the Soul's "Jaykub"

Dark Night of the Soul is a concept album/side project involving two awesome artists (Dangermouse & Sparklehorse) that may never see the light of day, at least in terms of official release. Both of these guys are great in their own right, and they even managed to bring in a few more ringers to round it out. Unfortunately, it seems corporate BS may prevent this thing from being produced for mass-consumption. Dangermouse & Sparklehorse have even gone so far as to sell the elaborate packaging, with a blank recordable disk included, apparently encouraging the public to download it at their leisure. "Jaykub" features Jason Lytle, of Grandaddy. Man, record labels suck:
